Hey local wanderers and happy summer! Yes, there’s still plenty of it left. Summer is my most favorite time of the year. Growing up in Franklin County Tennessee, around one of the state’s most picturesque lakes, is why summertime is so special. Tims Ford Reservoir, or just “The Lake” as us locals call it, is a massive wet wildlife wonderland on the Elk River. Lakeview Marina is nestled in Tims Ford State Park right on Tims Ford Lake. I had the pleasure of touring the marina and meeting the amazing team led by Nathan Rains. Keep reading for an inside scoop on all the fantastic fun they have to offer.

Lakeview Marina is one of the most family-friendly destinations on the lake. Safety, responsibility, and fun are a major priority for the magnificent crew here. You and your littles will be well taken care of and entertained. They have something for the whole family!
If you are camping or visiting Tims Ford State Park, Lakeview Marina is there for you. Part of the appeal and beauty of the state park is its seclusion from the rest of the world. This makes it one of the best spots for stargazing. It also makes for a trek back into town if you’ve forgotten some camping or fishing necessities. Lakeview Marina to the rescue! They have a selection of basic supplies to get you back into the wonderful wilderness. Want to go fishing, but didn’t bring, or don’t have any gear? You’re in luck because they’ve got you covered there too. And we’re not talking about an overwhelming barrage you might find at Bass Pro Shop. Their focus is on simple family fun and that’s exactly what they excel at.
The marina acts as a useful resource for campers and visitors to the state park, but it also stands on its own as a destination for some lake life fun. You can get here via land or lake so logistics won’t slow you down. As one of the smallest marinas on the lake, they have gotten pretty creative at offering things you can’t get anywhere else on these waters. They have an impressive 16 flavor selection of Kemps Ice Cream as well as other quick nibbles for you and the fish. I recommend the java chunk ice cream! Check out the tasty menu here.
Pontoon Boat Rentals
Renting a pontoon boat allows travelers and locals alike the opportunity to fully experience lake life without breaking the bank by buying a boat. Lakeview Marina offers affordable and luxurious pontoon boat rentals instead of generic metal flotation devices. They even have comfortable sport vests so you can be safe in style. You will look and feel like a boat owner, not a boat renter, for the day.
They have a fleet of sport pontoon boats with a 90hp motor and tube towing tower. With the whole family in mind, they also have a fishing pontoon boat with a 60hp motor, live-well, and trolling motor. There’s enough room on this hybrid for fishing and playing. Overnight rentals are an option if you’re renting a lake house nearby. Tip: Reservations are strongly recommended, and you can make them here.
Kayaks and Paddleboards
This active pastime is growing in popularity on the Tims Ford Rustic Park Blueway. These “trails on the water” offer paddlers relaxing or exhilarating routes so you can customize your adventure. Want to try before you buy, or don’t want the larger cost commitment of owning your own? Lakeview Marina has a great rental selection to meet your paddling needs found here.
Don’t want to operate a boat, but you want to experience the fun and excitement of being out on the lake? Of course, you do! They offer amazing boat cruises with an extremely knowledgeable tour guide brimming with riveting knowledge about the park and the lake. You’ll walk, or swim, away rich with wisdom about the area. The tour travels around the property of Tims Ford State Park, winds through the islands owned by the park, over to Tims Ford Dam and back to Travis Hollow Bridge near the marina. You can customize your own tour to meet everyone’s needs. Call (931) 308-3214 to book a tour for your group.
Private Island Getaway
One of the coolest things I learned on the cruise was that the park rents out 6 private islands for overnight camping. The marina offers overnight kayak and paddleboard rentals to help you get to these secluded islands for some private primitive camping. Rental Information for the marina’s kayaks and paddleboards can be found here. For more information about the camping options, head on over to the park’s page here.

Fall Color Lake Tours
Although I’m pretty partial to summer, Tennessee in the Fall is simply beautiful, especially on the lake! Gazing at all the pretty fall colors from the lake is an experience unlike any other. Lakeview Marina offers Fall Color Lake Tours when most of the other marinas have already closed for the season. So if you still find yourself missing the lake after summer has ended, you can schedule one last tour and end boating season with a BURST…of color! Keep an eye on the Lakeview Marina and Wandering Localista Facebook pages for updated cruise schedules.
