Lynchburg Cigar Company/ Stave & Stone Pizzeria opened its doors on March 26, 2019, on the historic square in Lynchburg, Tennessee. You can find what Jim Clinton, the owner, likes to call the “Trifecta”: cigars, wood-fired pizza, and beer.
Yes, Local Wanderers, I said beer. Being a local, or anyone familiar with Lynchburg being the home of Jack Daniel’s, you know that it’s nestled in the “dry county” of Moore County. Fun Fact: This is the first business in Lynchburg approved for on-site beer consumption and the first place offering cigars, pizza, and beer under one roof.
With that news out of the way, let’s dive into how you’ll enjoy your visit to Lynchburg Cigar Company/ Stave & Stone Pizzeria.
The main entrance sits on Hiles Street. A giant cigar rests on the exterior brick beside a large glass window giving you a peek inside. The Lynchburg Cigar Company houses the gift shop and humidor. Take a left turn past the sock collection, and you’ll be in the Stave & Stone Pizzeria. This dining room has been newly renovated with a bar around the wood-fired pizza oven and a door to the back alley.
Upon entering the Lynchburg Cigar Company, you’re met with an impressive display of cigars and tobacco that lies on the other side of the gifts. Now I’m no cigar expert (or smoker for that matter), but it looks like there is something for the most discerning of tastes here.
I can fully appreciate awesome looking cigar boxes and they are filled with cigars from the best places. Some options include Cuban seeds planted in the Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
The emphasis on quality and excellence is evident as they only offer totally handmade, hand-rolled masterpieces. You can even find the highly sought after Connecticut shade wrapper.
Jim knows a thing or two about offering impeccable service and selection to cigar aficionados. Because before calling Tennessee home, he owned two other cigar shops in Mississippi.
The Cigar Vault in Gulfport was a retail destination and wholesale provider for local golf courses and casinos. Baldy’s Premium Cigars in Biloxi was considered the largest humidor on the coast. After being hit by hurricane Katrina, he salvaged its wood which hangs in Lynchburg Cigar Company’s humidor today.
The folks here are well educated on this fine art and love to share that wisdom with others. My time spent with the team transformed my knowledge from oblivious to an understanding deep enough to appreciate it on a new level. If you are a curious novice, this is an excellent place to learn and experience something new. Furthermore, experts looking for fascinating conversation will find it as an added bonus while shopping.
Fun Fact: A “room note” is the aroma others experience when someone lights a cigar or pipe.
After you’ve wandered around the humidor and gift shop, mosey on out to the Stave & Stone Pizzeria on The Porch. You’ll find the entrance to this dining area after you’ve gone through the front door on Hiles Street.
A majestically mighty wood-fired pizza oven greets you as the focal point of the room. Jim designed this picturesque pizza perfecter out of Italian components with assembly happening in California.
The Valoriani oven is authentic Italian craftsmanship that embodies 5 generations of tradition baked with cutting-edge design. California based Mugnaini open-hearth oven company partnered with Valoriani to bring customization and distribution to North America.
When you enjoy a handmade pizza at Lynchburg Cigar Company/ Stave & Stone Pizzeria, you are experiencing the passion of both industry leaders.
This authentic Neapolitan oven weighs in at 4,400 pounds and reaches 600 to 700 degrees on deck and 900 to 1,000 degrees up top. So there’s no worry of keeping up with demand because it can cook 140 pizzas an hour.
Grab a seat, order a drink, and enjoy the show as your pizza comes to life among the flames. If you’re in the area, you can swing by or call in to place a to-go order. Be the hero of your lunch break or after work family gathering with a delicious pizza customized just for you.
The best thing on the menu is exactly what you want, the BYOP: Build Your Own Pizza.
For a lighter option that packs heavy flavor, try the cauliflower crust. They offer wings for the wing lovers out there. Their menu is ever-evolving, so it’s best to go back frequently to see what’s new.
Jim rewards his regulars and newcomers alike with constant improvements and updates. As a result, to add even more comfort to your experience, The Portch has been newly renovated to the Stave & Stone Pizzeria. Future plans are in place to add more surprises.
One of my favorite surprises is the growing selection of drinks. There is something new to try each time I go there. Canned and bottle options include popular domestic and import beers, Jack Daniel’s country cocktails, Clubtails cocktail in a can, and seasonal craft beer. Get your Untapped app ready for check-in!
An impressive assortment of humorous gifts welcomes you as you walk in. The fun you’ll have as you allow your eyes and mind to wander across the array is a gift on its own. Some of the treasures you’ll find include the largest selection of wacky socks I’ve ever seen.
Need to find the perfect gift for that snarky loved one with a healthy sense of humor? You’re bound to find something that speaks to their silly soul, and I dare you not to find a little something for yourself. This reminds me of a fun adult version of Cracker Barrel. Please note that this is a family-friendly environment with enough fun for everyone.
Local Flavor in Every Bite
With the Jack Daniel’s distillery only a barrel roll away, they found a surprising and unique way to include this “Charcoal Mellowed Tennessee Whiskey”.
You can’t cook a pizza in a wood-fired Neapolitan oven with charcoal. Nor can you pour whiskey over your pizza…unless you want to at home. But you can use Jack Daniel’s and Frank Sinatra barrel staves and bungs as the wood to fuel the fire.
This is exactly what they do! Not only is this a sustainable solution, but it’s downright awesome. Each pizza has the essence of Jack and Frank cooked right into it. Sweet soulful sounds of Sinatra billowing through the air bring the experience home as you enjoy the handcrafted delicacies.
Not only do they have a remodeled indoor seating area, but you can also enjoy your trifecta out in the private courtyard. This not-at-all-scary and completely cozy back alley extends down to the Lynchburg Winery.
The shared space allows you to enjoy your libation of choice on private property with all the excitement of being on the Lynchburg square. Cheers to enjoying responsibly! There’s enough room back there for gatherings and events.
There’s a First Time for Everything
The Lynchburg Cigar Company/ Stave & Stone Pizzeria was the first to serve beer at the first annual Lynchburg Music Fest in August of 2019. They offered more entertainment and dining options for festival-goers. Additionally, Jim was instrumental in the recent change that allows beer to be served in Lynchburg/ Moore County.
The folks here have a heavy dose of dedication to giving their customers more than they could ever want. Their newest service includes delivery to the Lost Creek Road boat dock and parking lot.
When hunger and thirst hit while you’re out on the lake, they will meet you at the dock so you keep the party going. You can get pizza, beer, cigars, and ice without sacrificing a member of your group to make the journey.
Current delivery times are 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM. Please place your order an hour ahead of time by calling their number with your debit/ credit card.
